Withers is an American singer-songwriter and musician who performed and recorded from 1970 until 1985. Lean on Me was featured on Withers second album and due to the success of his first
album, he was able to afford himself a small Wurlitzer electric piano on which he wrote this piece. When Withers was working on composing this piece he started with the phrase "lean on me" and
said the rest of the piece wrote itself.
